Another image shows five galaxies in a cosmic dance in the constellation Pegasus. These galaxies have been observed before, but the Webb images show them in a brighter, clearer light.

Every beginning has an end. Every star dies. Some fade quietly into the cosmic darkness. The bigger ones go out in a burst of colour and fury. NASA has released a picture of the Southern Ring Nebula which shows a dying star with a foamy edge of escaping gas. This material goes on to form new stars in the time ahead. Every end has a beginning too.

The telescope has captured the signature of water, clouds and haze, in the atmosphere of a giant Saturn-like planet orbiting a Sun-like star 1,150 light-years away

These images are released a day after NASA released the deepest and sharpest infrared image of the distant universe to date. It covers a part of the universe up to 13 billion years ago, just 800 million years after its supposed beginning.

It's the biggest and most powerful space telescope ever and it is now parked a million miles away from earth sending us clearer pictures with its infrared cameras.

NASA is making a song and dance about the new images it's getting. That US president Joe Biden joined NASA administrator Bill Nelson in releasing the first image is a clear indication that big ones are expected ahead.

The pictures are breathtakingly beautiful. It's the beauty of science. Some scientists call it art. And NASA is slashing them on the giant screens in Times Square, New York and the Piccadilly Circus, London.
