Four people were rushed to the hospital following a severe five-car collision on A19 in County Durham. After the crash, the road was also closed.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson stated that they received a call around 8 am on October 18 about a road traffic collision of five vehicles on the A19 southbound. The spokesperson added that they sent two Hazardous Area Response Teams, along with three emergency ambulance crews and a clinical team leader, to the accident spot.
The A19 road was closed between Peterlee and Easington, and vehicles were advised of delays. A Durham Police spokesperson stated that they had asked road users to avoid the area where the accident occurred and find alternative routes until the road blockage was dealt with properly. The spokesperson added that the commuter road would likely be closed for some time. The police issued the advisory after receiving multiple calls about the vehicle crash on A19.
A Great North Air Ambulance Service team also reached the spot after being called. Its spokesperson stated they provided critical and essential care at the accident site.
