Former Hull City FC owner Assem Allam died at the age of 83. Dr Allam took over the club in 2010, and in the 12 years that followed, they achieved two promotions to the Premier League, reached the FA Cup final, and won the League One title.

After hearing the news of his death, Hull City released a statement expressing their "deep grief." Before Allam's administration in 2010, the club struggled financially in the second tier.


Many fans turned against the Allam family's ownership because Allam intended to rename the club Hull Tigers, even though they eventually earned a promotion to the Premier League and reached the FA Cup final under manager Steve Bruce.

He placed the business for sale in 2015 after the Football Association turned down his request to change the team's name.

Several bids to purchase the club had previously fallen through in the years before January's purchase by Acun Medya Group of Turkey.



Allam, who talked to BBC Look North, said he has nothing against the protesters, who were unhappy with his ownership.

He and his relatives have donated millions of pounds to improve healthcare and education in the area.

In January, Hull Royal Infirmary opened a new £7.5 million diabetes treatment complex, with $3 million coming from Allam.

His previous donations supported the establishment of a birth centre, the development of robotic surgery at Hull Women and Children's Hospital, and the investigation of cancer, heart disease, and neurological illnesses at the Daisy Appeal's Molecular Imaging Research Centre.
