Former Gladiators legend Wolf believes his son Dean could take his legacy forward in 2023 reboot

Michael Van Wijk was television’s favourite "badass" in the 1990s. Kids growing up in the '90s knew him as Wolf from the endurance game show Gladiators. And now, as the makers are considering a revival for the show, Michael, 70, has expressed his willingness to take part in it. However, given his age, Michael is unlikely to join, though he suggested that his son, Dean, could take up the role.

Dean, the 34-year-old bodybuilder could be the next Wolf, as his father suggested that he looked just like him. Michael confirmed that Dean had applied to become a gladiator and stated that he was fit, muscular, and athletic enough to become the new Wolf. Michael added that Dean had the same enthusiasm and sense of humour as himself and would do well as a gladiator.

Between 1992 and 2000, Michael played Wolf and became the show's most recognisable gladiator before it was cancelled. While he enjoyed a great following among children, Michael also had some hard-core female fans who would show up at hotels all dressed up, claiming to know him. He said his wife, Paula, would call such girls hoverers as they would hover, waiting for his autograph.




According to media reports, the BBC was in talks with the rights holder, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, to revive the show for BBC One. According to some reports, the Gladiators will be resurrected in 2023, with filming taking place in Sheffield.
