Former Disney actor Maitland Ward denounces alleged dark underbelly of Hollywood

Maitland Ward, a former Disney actor, has criticized Hollywood and asserted that quitting the iconic Tinseltown has indeed saved her career. The former "Boy Meets World" star, who featured in the show from 1999 to 2001, made the decision to quit Hollywood in 2019 and hasn't looked back since.

Maitland Ward's frank memoir "Rated X" offers behind-the-scenes peek at the alleged dark underbelly of Hollywood, according to reports.

For instance, Maitland claims that she was repeatedly asked to try on intimate apparel by the producers at the office. Although she wasn't entirely at ease with her body at the time, she said in her new book that having eyes fixated on her scantily clothed physique was exhilarating.


She added that the issue she had with the whole thing wasn't the extent of her bareness. In fact, she would have enjoyed it more if they had approached her and asked her opinion on the subject or how she wanted it to turn out. What worried her was that she was unable to shake the impression that the writers were making fun of her and somehow demeaning her, as if she were the punch line to a joke that she was not privy to.



She also said that she had two publicists who would control her. She would wear the little skimpy outfits on set, but if she did it in her own personal life, if she was looking pretty or cute, they claimed that she was desperate.

She said that one of the publicists said to her that she would not make any money being attractive. They would ask her to take off certain images off of Instagram, like taking off her swimsuit images, because those images look desperate.

She expressed gratitude to her fans for sticking with her, saying that she really appreciates that because if it weren't for her fans, and even social media in the beginning, where she could express herself honestly, she would not have received the recognition and expanded her audience or even had the career that she currently loves.

She said that she now sees things differently, and it feels so strange to think that the things she thought were so painful and strange at the time shouldn't have happened.
