Former British Civil Service head Lord Bob Kerslake passes away at 68

Lord Bob Kerslake, who held and led various top-tier positions in the UK, has passed away, aged 68.

Former head of Home Civil Service, United Kingdom – Lord Bob Kerslake passed away recently, aged 68. His sister and daughter announced the passing on Twitter. The cause of death, as per the tweet, is said to be cancer.

“My brother Bob (Lord Robert Kerslake) died yesterday after a short battle with cancer. We are all devastated,” sister Ros Kerslake wrote on Twitter.




Lord Bob Kerslake joined the Civil Service as the head in January 2012 and led the position till September 2014 during David Cameron’s coalition government. Cameron, at the time of Lord Robert Kerslake’s appointment as the Civil Service head, noted that he would bring a ‘wealth of experience’ to the position.

Prior to becoming the Head Civil Service, he served as a permanent secretary at the Department for Communities and Local Government, notably, during 2010-2015. Earlier, from 1997 to 2008, he held the position of chief executive at Sheffield City Council.

After departing from the Civil Service in 2015, Lord Kerslake assumed the roles of chair at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and chair of the board of governors at Sheffield Hallam University.

Regardless, he was a key figure in the UK for his countless contributions in most positions he held. Most Twitter handles, including politicians have come together to pay tribute to Lord Bob Kerslake.

Sheffield City Council wrote on Twitter, “We’re very sad to hear the news that our former Chief Executive, Lord Bob Kerslake, has died after a short illness. Bob devoted his life to public service and was a true champion for Sheffield and its people. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends at this time.”
