Local authorities have not yet identified the source of the fire, which broke out two years after a 95 sq km-wide fire erupted in October 2020 and lasted for a week. Regional officials said that the fire began on the night of Friday, October 21 and expanded throughout the night due to strong winds. The ground that blazes covered is yet to be determined.
On Saturday, October 22, an aircraft carrying top Tanzania National Parks Authority (Tanapa) officials and local authorities went on a visit to assess the situation, but, they were unable to land.
