The CEO of the housing trust that failed unfortunate child Awaab Ishak and his family has finally been fired. Gareth Swarbrick, the chief executive of Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH), promised to stay despite tremendous demands to resign when it was revealed that Awaab, two, died as a result of black mould in his house. Aisha Aminin and Faisal Abdullah, the toddler's parents, had frequently notified RBH that their home was hazardous, but their cries were ignored.

A coroner concluded last week that their flat was unsuitable for human occupancy. Swarbrick, who received £170,000 the year Awaab died, faced rising pressure to resign. RBH finally recognised today that his situation had become untenable. Just yesterday, Swarbrick stated that the discussion over my position has begun to eclipse the most essential aspect of all of this: a family has lost a child.

He also stated that after speaking with the Board, he can affirm that he would not resign. They have given him their entire support and trust to continue to manage the necessary adjustments and changes at RBH.
