World Cup predictions have been quite popular in recent editions of the world’s biggest sports tournament. It became even more popular when Paul the Octopus was employed to predict the outcomes of Germany’s matches in the 2010 World Cup. Other famous predictors in World Cup history are Mani the Parakeet, Leon the Porcupine, Petty the Hippo, and Rabio the Octopus.
Chris Sutton is making his predictions for all 64 matches during the World Cup in Qatar. He chose two teams from each group that would qualify for the knockout stage. Sutton had picked France as the winner in the finals, much like during the 2018 World Cup, when he was the only BBC panellist to pick France.
For the 2022 edition, Sutton predicted that England would reach the quarterfinals of the tournament. However, he predicted that Wales wouldn’t be able to cross the group stage. For Tuesday’s Ecuador and Senegal game, Sutton predicted a 2-1 victory for Ecuador. And for the Netherlands vs Qatar game, he predicted that the European giants would beat the home team 2-0. In the Group B game between Wales and England, he picked England to win 3-0 and predicted a draw between Iran and USA.
