FIFA World Cup 2022: Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘friend’ Piers Morgan accuses hosts of bias towards Lionel Messi

Piers Morgan slammed a media outlet for 'fan-girling' over Lionel Messi after the striker scored his 789th career goal in Argentina's 1000th game on Saturday. Argentina won three straight games after a shocking loss to Saudi Arabia in their 2022 FIFA World Cup opener. In each of those situations, Lionel Messi ran the show.

Messi was complemented by commentators Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, Pablo Zabaleta, and Rio Ferdinand after leading Argentina to the World Cup quarterfinals, but Morgan didn't take well to the remarks on Twitter.

Morgan, who is well-known for his close friendship with Cristiano Ronaldo, posted: ‘The relentless Messi fan-girling by the whole punditry team is getting excruciatingly obsequious. Getting worried one of them might have an "accident" in the studio calms yourselves, lads’.


Lineker, who has often expressed his support for Messi, replied to Morgan on Twitter, writing, “Good to see you come quickly from deep inside Ronaldo's guts to give your point of view”.



Morgan made news lately after declaring loyalty to Cristiano Ronaldo. He notably gave the Portuguese superstar a forum on his YouTube channel to talk about Manchester United’s treatment towards him.

After scoring three goals to his name in this world cup, Lionel Messi's focus will now go to his team's match against the Netherlands on Friday, December 9, while the Portuguese are due to play Switzerland in the Round of 16 on Tuesday, December 6.
