FIFA 23 will launch on September 30, and EA Sports has released the annual ratings for the new FIFA game. As usual, while some rankings make much sense, others have created controversy among FIFA fans.
Expectedly, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, two legends who’ve ruled the ranking for over a decade, have slipped many places.
Ronaldo, placed at No.3 in FIFA 2022 rankings, has slipped to the eighth position. Messi, however, has managed to be in the top 5, currently ranked fifth. Real Madrid striker and Ronaldo’s former teammate Karim Benzema takes the top position in this year’s rankings.

Benzema has an overall rating of 91, which is on par with Messi. However, the French national’s tremendous performance in the last season, netting 44 goals in 46 games, and winning the La Liga and Champions League, make him an obvious choice for the top position. And given that he was ranked at No.14 in FIFA 2022, Benzema’s rise to the top is the best year-on-year gain in recent times.

Former Liverpool striker Sadio Mane, who recently moved to Germany at Bayern Munich, also saw a significant rise in his rankings. Previously ranked 22nd, Mane climbed nine positions to reach the 13th spot in FIFA 23 rankings.
