Ex-England rugby star denies allegations of consuming illicit drugs after failing roadside drug test

Ex-England rugby star Sam Burgess was arrested by Maroubra Police for consuming drugs after he tested positive in a random roadside drug test. However, Burgess completely denied the allegations.

Former England rugby star Sam Burgess, has denied using any illicit drugs after he reportedly tested positive in a random roadside drug test. He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, Sydney, following a police check. Burgess, while appearing before the media, denied obtaining, processing or consuming any drugs.

The police stopped Burgess while driving his BMW X5 in Kingsford and tested him for a random drug test in which he tested positive for cocaine. They also found his driving licence was suspended.

However, the rugby player clarified that after being released from the police station, he immediately rushed to an independent, and internationally accredited drug testing centre and took a urine test which gave a negative result for consuming all illicit drugs.


He added that ever since police gave him back the full license after a 10-month cancellation period, he brought positive changes in his life and his driving. He said he has followed all road safety courses and never incurred any fines ever since.

The police said that Burgess has yet not been charged for testing positive in the drugs test as inquiries are still being conducted. Police will wait until the result of a secondary oral fluid analysis comes.
