Everton has received an immediate 10-point deduction on the basis of breaching the Premier League's financial rules. It is considered as the biggest sporting sanction in the history.

The club lost 10 points after they were found to have breached profitability and sustainability rules for the three-year period ending in the 2021-22 season.

Back in March, the Premier League had referred the football club to an independent commission but nothing concrete regarding the breach was revealed.

What does it mean for Manchester City?
Manchester City has been accused of more than 100 breaches of financial rules over a nine-year period from 2009. The statement in the 10-point deduction read that they will 'monitor with great interest the decisions made in any other cases.'

As of now, Man City has denied any charge and accusations. But the news of Everton could make other clubs nervous as well.

Are Everton guilty?
As per Premier League, it has said that the club accepts it was in breach of the rules.

The club has refuted the claims. "The Club believes that the Commission has imposed a wholly disproportionate and unjust sporting sanction. The Club has already communicated its intention to appeal the decision to the Premier League. The appeal process will now commence and the Club's case will be heard by an Appeal Board appointed pursuant to the Premier League's rules in due course," said Everton in its statement.

What will happen now?
After the deduction, the club is planning to appeal. The panel that will be hearing the appeal will not be the same independent panel that reviewed it back and announced 10-point deduction.
