Eurovision Song Contest 2023: Liverpool makes bid to host mega event. Check details here
Liverpool has made the bid along with other cities such as Leeds and Manchester to host Eurovision Song Contest 2023. The shortlist of the host cities for the event will be announced today.

European Broadcasting Union (EBU) are the event organisers for Eurovision Song Contest 2023 and they had previously decided that Ukraine would not be hosting it due to its ongoing invasion by Russia. They decided that the UK would instead host the competition on Ukraine's behalf.
Talking about the bid by Liverpool, Cllr Harry Doyle, Liverpool cabinet member for culture and visitor economy and Council's cabinet assistant mayor, said that they were delighted to submit a bid to host the competition in 2023.
He added that hosting such a major event on such short notice would be difficult and would require creative planning. However, he believes Liverpool will be the perfect place to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. He said that he looks forward to seeing whether Liverpool has been successful in going through to the next stage of the selection process.
The UK has been given a chance for the ninth time to host the Eurovision. This time on behalf of Ukraine as Russia has invaded the country. Their entrant, Samy Ryder was the runner-up in the competition in 2022.
However, there are calls for Ukrainian refugees and their UK families to be provided with "priority tickets" to Eurovision 2023.
