Eric Cantona ventures into music career, hints at potential Rolling Stones support

Eric Cantona, the iconic French footballer who transitioned into acting and now, music, is preparing for his first-ever UK and Ireland tour. The multi-talented 57-year-old, who is credited with popularizing the shout "Ooh ahh Cantona," has published a four-track EP called "I'll Make My Own Heaven" in advance of the live performances, which begin on Thursday in Manchester.

With a sound that has been compared to Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, and Serge Gainsbourg, Cantona is poised to leave his mark in the music industry while admitting to having modest guitar talents. The EP showcases his rich, gravelly voice, and he sings in both French and English, revealing a deep need to express himself.

In an interview with the BBC, Cantona revealed that he always had a dream to perform on stage, to engage with an audience and share the energy. He sees music as a natural progression, a way to express himself, just as he did in football and acting. The EP's tracks, averaging around 14 minutes, were built for live performances and will contribute to his debut full-length album.


Cantona, ever the self-assured figure, even humorously suggested that legendary rock band The Rolling Stones might consider supporting him. While his musical journey might have come as a surprise, it's a path he's excited to explore, combining his passion for art and sport in a new and creative way.
