Epsom College head Emma Pattison, husband and daughter found dead at school

Emma Pattison, the head of the private school Epsom College was found dead along with her husband and daughter were found dead on a property on school grounds. Surrey Police officers said that they were confident that there was “no third-party involvement”.

The 45-year-old headteacher had only joined the school this academic year in September after being the head at Croydon High school for six years. In October 2022, Epsom College was awarded “Independent School of the Year”.

A probe has been launched into the incident but Surrey police have said that they believe it was an isolated incident. Dr Alastair Wells, chair of the board of governors at Epsom College, said in a statement that the entire school is in “shock and disbelief” at the tragic news of Emma Pattison’s family. Wells remembered Emma as a “wonderful teacher” and a “delightful person”.


As per media reports, an email from Wells to parents stated that counsellors would be available for the staff and students. Founded in 1853, Epsom College is attended by more than 850 boys and girls.

While Emma Pattison was headteacher at Epsom College, her husband was a chartered accountant who was also a director of a management consultancy company named Tanglewood 2016. Surrey police’s Det Ch Ins Kimball Edey has ensured that law enforcement would conduct a “thorough investigation” into the Sunday night incident. All three deaths have been reported to the coroner.
