Many paintings have been targeted by environmentalists in recent years to attract attention. From Picasso to Van Gogh, several artworks of the artists have been vandalised. This time, it was a painting by Johannes Vermeer.

The painting, the Girl with the Pearl earrings, had to face soup and potatoes. But who is behind this?

There is nothing new in protesting at the gallery. In fact, many art pieces have faced the same. In July, Sandro Botticelli’s Primavera at Galleria Degli Uffizi in Florence was attacked by a few climate activists. Similarly, a man was arrested in May for smearing the Mona Lisa painting with a cake.

Melbourne also witnessed two protesters gluing themselves to the Picasso painting this month. London’s National Gallery also had protestors throwing tomato soup at Vincent Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. Mashed potatoes in Germany are not to be forgotten.
