The former England striker said Gareth might want to put Maguire and Stones together.
Alan Smith also picked his England XI for the match. Smith went for a 4-2-1-3 formation for his England XI, with Pickford as his goalkeeper. He also included Maguire, Trippier, Foden, Bellingham, Rice, Stones, Shaw, Mount, Sterling and Kane in his team. Referring to Mount, Smith said that he was a fantastic player.
While commenting on England's chances of winning over Iran, Smith said that opening games in World Cups are always tricky. Smith said everyone expects England to win the opener without any struggle, but it might not be that easy. He thinks that England may beat Iran 1-0.
