Qatar, England, and Wales will begin their World Cup campaigns today. However, after being threatened with fines by FIFA, it has come to light that neither team has decided on whether their leaders would wear the OneLove armband.

It happens in the middle of continuous uncertainty around potential FIFA sanctions for their activity, including possible yellow cards for England captain Harry Kane and Wales captain Gareth Bale. When England takes on Iran at Khalifa International Stadium at 1 p.m. UK time and Wales takes on the United States at 7 p.m. UK time, both were scheduled to wear a OneLove multicoloured armband.

It is believed that FIFA has placed the Football Association in a difficult situation, and conversations are now taking place.

Every match day, FIFA has requested that all captains wear a different armband to support social causes such as "Football unites the globe," "Share the food," and "Bring the moves." The choice was made months after many nations requested permission from Fifa to wear rainbow armbands in Qatar as a protest against discrimination and in support of LGBTQ+ rights.

The appeal went unanswered, and both England and Wales were taken aback by FIFA's last-minute action on November 19. Despite the possibility of punishment, both FAs have stated their intention to wear the OneLove armbands. England manager Gareth Southgate said, "Of course we realise in this Premier League that the teams have opted to only do it for select games, important events and we believe this is the largest and it's a powerful signal that will travel throughout the globe for young people, in particular, to realise that inclusion is really essential”.
