Emma Raducanu, on Thursday, retired from the round of 16 match at the ASB Classic due to an ankle injury which comes just 11 days ahead of the Australian Open. The British No. 1 was playing against World No. 134 Viktoria Kuzmova of Slovakia indoors due to heavy rainfall. Now, she was preparing for the quarter-final in her first WTA Tour event of 2023 but had to give up due to injuries. But what’s next for the 20-year-old tennis star?

Following the ankle injury, Raducanu had expressed that it was “difficult” to take. She also revealed that she had done a lot of physical work and was feeling optimistic but being stopped due to an ankle injury was “pretty disappointing”.

As per reports, the initial signs that the 20-year-old showed in Auckland following the injury indicated that she was in a good shape and she was looking forward to the Australian Open. But her future in the first major tennis event of the year still remains uncertain as any minute ligament damage in her ankle would scrape all hopes of playing in Melbourne. Just earlier this week, ahead of Thursday’s incident, Raducanu had expressed her optimism in playing “fearless tennis”.
