King Charles III’s visit to Micklegate Bar in York, made international headlines, after a lone protestor threw eggs at King Charles and the Queen Consort during their walkabout. The young lad was heard screaming 'this country was built on the blood of slaves', as four police officers restrained him to the ground. Meanwhile, onlookers shouted 'God save the King' and 'shame on you' in response.

The King and Queen Consort were in York to attend the unveiling of a statue of Queen Elizabeth II, the first to be installed since her death. The royal couple attended a service in York Minster, following which the monarch unveiled the Platinum Jubilee tribute to Elizabeth II, crafted by Minster stonemason Richard Bossons.

King Charles looked completely unfazed by the ‘egg attack’ and merely looked at the ground briefly to see the eggs. They then continued to greet the crowd. The rest of the visit went on smoothly, where he was welcomed warmly to the ceremony by the Lord Mayor. After the unveiling ceremony, the royal pair travelled to Doncaster, South Yorkshire, to confer its status as a city. A total of eight places won coveted city status as part of celebrations for the Queen’s Jubilee.
