Edinburgh International Film Festival stops trading. Here's why
The charity running the Edinburgh International Film Festival and two cinema halls have called in the administrators due to the rising costs of enormous energy bills.

Chad Griffin and Tom MacLennan have been appointed administrators by CMI. Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland, said her government would do all it could to help the cultural group to survive this economic onslaught.
Over time the Edinburgh Film Festival, the oldest running festival since 1942, has seen the likes of Clint Eastwood, Sir Sean Connery, Ewan McGregor, and others attend its various programs. Also, many English films have premiered in this festival, like Blade Runner, Alien, Taxi Driver, Amelie, The Hurt Locker, and a host of other popular films.
The organization has said that in the next twelve months, they would need about £200,000 to accommodate the cost rise. The price cap is for six months, but planning beyond March 2023 is uncertain. This apart, the real problem has been the dismal visit by patrons to the film festival primarily due to the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis affecting the situation adversely.
Online streaming services or OTT platforms have been bringing down cinema-goers, and this, in turn, has affected movie halls. The CMI profusely thanks its staff and visitors for their immense support.
