The Clacket Lane and Cobham gasoline stations in Essex and Surrey, respectively, were "working as rapidly as we can to remove the demonstrators," according to Surrey Police. Due to damage, including on both sides of Clacket Lane, neither station presently has any gasoline available.

The Just Stop Oil group's protest began at around 5 am and continued all morning. Police stated: "We are working as swiftly as we can to evict the protesters from the fuel stations. We are aware of the disturbance this is causing."

The police reported that as of 7.30 am, nine people had been detained on suspicion of causing criminal damage.

According to Just Stop Oil's website, a roadblock was also erected in Thurrock Services in Essex, and a total of 32 activists were part. "Just Stop Oil supporters stopped access to the gas pumps at all sites," the statement continues.

Some supporters also damaged gas pumps' display glass, painted over them, or locked onto them, according to the report.

Lines of cars formed at some British gas stations for a fourth day on Monday, as the government mulled sending in the army to help ease supply disruption triggered by a shortage of truck drivers.

Brian Madderson, chairman of the Petrol Retailers Association, said training had been taking place “in the background” for military personnel to drive tankers, though the government said it had “no plans at the moment” to deploy troops.

Post-Brexit immigration rules mean EU citizens can no longer live and work visa-free in Britain, as they could when the UK was a member of the bloc. Several countries, including the United States and Germany, also are experiencing a shortage of truck drivers. But the problem has been especially visible in Britain, where it has contributed to empty supermarket shelves and shuttered gas pumps.

A Gloucestershire gardener named Adam, 53, who is taking action today, said: "I don't want to have to tell my grandchildren in 20 years that I just stayed home and worried about it when they point out that we were aware of the destruction and misery that the climate catastrophe will bring. I want to be able to assure them that I tried my best."

We must act because the government is failing to safeguard us from a global disaster by continuing to permit the mining of new fossil fuels.

The 73-year-old participant, Joy Corrigan, a grandmother of three, said: "I am sick with anxiety about how today's children will survive." I witness evidence of climate change on a daily basis, and the frequency is increasing. Get your bloody finger out of here, government. Action must be taken now, not tomorrow.

Sophie Sharples, a 22-year-old Brighton student who is participating in the protests, continued, "It is claimed that each generation must find its purpose and carry it out, or betray it."
