EasyJet looks to hire people over-45s as cabin crew. See why

EasyJet has seen a 27 per cent increase in cabin crew recruits aged 45 or over since 2018. Three-quarters of adults over 45 said that they would like to take on a new challenge once their children have left home, according to research conducted by the carrier.

Cabin crew, who have recently joined the airline and are 45 years of age or older, will be included in the staffing drive, including 54-year-old Karen Brodie. Daniela, Karen's 21-year-old daughter, is also a flight attendant for easyJet. The study found that 67 per cent of parents felt motivated by their children's professional development and success. Six in 10 respondents said a career that allowed for travel would be the ideal situation.



Airlines laid off thousands of workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and global travel ban. Indeed, easyJet announced in May 2020 that it would reduce its workforce by up to 30%. Tens of thousands of flights out of the UK were cancelled this summer, and staffing shortages were among the issues plaguing airlines and airports. As international travel resumed after the easing of pandemic-related restrictions throughout much of the world, many carriers worked to hire personnel. EasyJet offers over 1,100 routes in more than 35 nations.
