For the Dublin City Marathon, which begins at 8:40 am this morning, about 25,000 people have descended on the nation's capital.

At 8:40 a.m., Fitzwilliam Street Upper will host the marathon's opening wave, with several waves for various runners. The marathon will begin at 8:40 a.m. for wheelchair users, and at 9:45 a.m. for the final wave of runners.

From 3.30am to 11am, Lad Lane, Cumberland Rd, Kildare St, and Merrion Row are closed.

Herbert St to Baggot St Lower is shut from 3.30 am to 12 pm.

Fitzwilliam Square North to Fitzwilliam Upper is from 3.30am to 1 pm.
