Director Tim Burton reveals why Dumbo may be the last movie he’ll make with Disney

Tim Burton, the director of the live-action remake of Dumbo, shares that it may be the last film he would make with Disney.

According to the Deadline report, Tim Burton talked about it at Lyon’s Lumiere Festival during a press conference. Lumiere Festival Lyon, France, was the same award show where Tim Burton received his Prix Lumiere award.




Dumbo director Tim Burton began his career after getting recognized for his project at CalArts on Stalk of the Celery Monster. He started as an animator and, as time passed, emerged as one of the most appreciated directors at Disney. Tim Burton, however, now feels that his time with Disney is nearing its end.

In a press conference, Tim Burton said he was hired and fired several times while working with Disney.

The character of the elephant Dumbo is very much similar to his own life, he remarked. Further, he said that it was while working on Dumbo that he realized that he was like the lead character, but at Disney.

Tim Burton said that he felt that he was working in a big and horrible circus and that he needed to escape this. He further revealed that he thinks the movie was very “autobiographical” at multiple points.

Tim Burton also revealed that Disney had become a bit homogenized and spoke about how there is less space for exploring different things.
