The ball is owned by referee Ali Bin Nasser, who assumed command of the match and failed to see the handball. Graham Budd Auctions will sell it on November 16. The Tunisian said he thought it was the right moment to share the historic ball with the world and hoped the buyer would allow the public to watch the object holding massive significance.
When asked about the handball goal, he said he couldn't see it well. Shilton and Maradona were both facing him from behind. He turned to his linesman for confirmation of the goal's authenticity, as per Fifa's instructions provided before the competition, and made his way back to the halfway line, signalling he was happy that the goal should stand.
With the history surrounding the ball, auctioneer Graham Budd expects this property to be popular when it goes up for sale.
