Detainees protest, cause disturbance at Harmondsworth Immigration Centre in UK

One hundred detainees at the Harmondsworth Immigration Removal Centre caused disturbances on Saturday morning. The protest is thought to be because of a power outage.

Around 100 detainees staged a protest at Harmondsworth Immigration Centre on Saturday. The reason behind the rally is thought to be an extended power outage. The power cut left the facility without power for over 24 hours. No injuries have been reported.

The facility management planned to move 100 people to make space for new people from Manston. The immigration facility is reported to be overcrowded at the moment. However, further proceedings have been stopped because of the protest. The Home Office contractors and emergency services are dealing with the demonstration.
