There can be another day of commuter chaos as protesters of "Just Stop Oil" are still blocking the Dartford Crossing. After two climbers from the group climbed "The Queen Elizabeth II Bridge", that connects Kent with Essex, it was closed. The demands of the two climbers from the government include halting the “licences and consents” for all new oil and gas.

Two-hour delay:

According to National Highways, the closure of the major road bridge on Monday caused a two-hour delay during rush hours. On the anti-clockwise carriageway, there were six miles of congestion, and in the opposite direction, it was five miles long.

With slow-moving traffic of about 1.5 miles, the delays were also building on Tuesday, said National Highways.

Further, it told road users to “consider alternative routes” and advised them not to travel to the Dartford Crossing.

‘Very complex’:

An Essex police spokesperson said they are working to identify the quickest and safest way to “resolve the situation” by collaborating with their partners. Also, adding that as the climbers are 100 metres up in the air, it's “very complex”, and coming to a resolution can “take time”.

Just Stop Oil released a statement on Monday where the 39-year-old bridge design engineer, Morgan Trowland, said that the government has enacted “suicidal laws” that are “destroying our environment” and “killing human life” by accelerating oil production.

So until the government stops all new oil, he’s “occupying the QEII bridge”.
