Dame Deborah James's mother Heather opens up about daughter's death. This is what she said

The mother of Dame Deborah James, Heather, had revealed that the campaigner admitted in a late-night chat that she didn't want to die just before she passed away at 40.

In June this year, the brave campaigner Dame Deborah James died when she was surrounded by her family. She had been battling bowel cancer for the last five years. During her final weeks, she stayed at her parent's home, where her mother, Heather, was taking care of her.

Her first interview following Deborah's death recalled her conversation with her daughter. She remembered her daughter saying "I do love you" to her and telling her "I have no regrets, you know?". And she replied, "that's brilliant."

That night Deborah also told her mother, "I don't want to die," and Heather remembers this as the hardest and saddest part.

Deborah persisted in raising awareness of bowel cancer during her hospice care at home. Even during her end-of-life care, she began the Bowelbabe fund, which has raised an amount of more than 7.4 million Euros for cancer charities since then.

She also published a book titled 'How To Live When You Could Be Dead' and released a clothing range in collaboration with 'In The Style'. This whole effort helped to raise another 1 million Euros for charities.



Prince William awarded a damehood by visiting her home. On that incredible day, Deborah shared her experience on her Instagram.

During that time, the brave campaigner spent quality time with her family while visiting the Royal Ascot races.

Heather is a proud mother because of her daughter's astounding achievements as she said, "I still find that amazing that she had that love of the people out there" in the interview with BBC.

And when asked about whether public support has been a help, she related that without people's help, she and her family could not have coped.
