Crawley Town manager Matthew Etherington fired after 32 days in charge
Crawley Town's manager, Matthew Etherington, has been fired after only 32 days in charge. Etherington, 41, resigned as Peterborough's Under-23 manager on November 27.

The former Tottenham midfielder won his first game in charge, but then suffered back-to-back home defeats to Hartlepool and Sutton, the latter featuring a terrible corner routine that drew widespread mockery on social media. The defeats dropped Crawley to 20th in League Two. A statement issued by the club on Thursday confirmed Etherington and assistant manager Simon Davies had resigned with immediate effect.
According to interim CEO and Director of Football Chris Galley, it has become clear to all parties involved that this partnership is not the right fit to carry the club forward and achieve goals. He stated that they had mutually decided to take a different path. They wish Matty and Simon the best of luck in their future endeavours.

Only a month before Etherington's appointment, Galley stated, Matthew and Simon, both impressed him during the recruitment process, and it was clear to see that their ambitions match those of the club. They are well into the season and, understandably, want to move as high up the table as possible. He said that he is confident that Matthew and Simon are the right people to ensure that happens.
Chris Galley also thanked Peterborough for their assistance in this process and for allowing him to take two valuable members of their coaching staff with him. Matthew Etherington said he was extremely excited about the opportunity and had really positive discussions with the owners.
Crawley Town's new owners, investment group WAGMI United, promised to shake up the status quo, try out some new ideas, and build a worldwide community of fans while bringing entertaining football to the club when they took over ownership of the team in April.
The takeover announcement further stated that they would provide "unprecedented transparency and accountability" to the supporters. They also added if they fall short of their goal of achieving "promotion to League One by the end of their second season in charge," supporters would be able to choose whether key board members should stay on or be replaced.
