A large-scale effort is currently underway to locate a missing infant, following the arrest of Constance Marten and Mark Gordon in Brighton. The couple disappeared in January, with their child believed to be just a few days old at the time.
Although the Sussex Police have apprehended the pair on suspicion of child neglect, the whereabouts of the baby remain unknown. In an "urgent search," law enforcement officials are thoroughly combing an allotment and golf course located on the Sussex Downs, utilizing helicopters, drones, and police dogs in the process.
Marten and Gordon, the latter of whom has a prior conviction as a sex offender, were found by a member of the public in the Fiveways region of northern Brighton on Monday evening. Metropolitan Police Detective Superintendent noted that the couple was wearing heavy outdoor clothing and was en-route to an open land area before being taken into custody.
Detective Superintendent Basford expressed his continued optimism that the child was unharmed, but also highlighted concerns over the infant's exposure to the elements, making the search a race against time.
The couple, who had been evading the authorities, reportedly traveled by taxi across England for several weeks following the breakdown of their car near Bolton, Greater Manchester, on January 5.
