The astounding and horrifying macro photograph of an ant that seems like it came straight out of a horror movie was taken by Eugenijus Kavaliauskas. The eerie image of an ant resembles a face. It serves as the antenna's foundation. A human face can be seen, thanks to clever cropping! giving the ant a diabolical appearance.

According to a Redditor, the reason is that the way this photo was taken and cropped gives the impression that the antenna's base is actually the eyes. He claimed that the lack of eyes gives a more menacing appearance.

Another Redditor said that humans perceive anger as a result of the phenomenon known as pareidolia, which is the propensity to detect patterns when none exist.

In reality, he said, this is done by omitting the eyes and mandibles, which is not how somebody trying to identify the ant would take a picture of it. Although interesting to look at, the image is useless to a researcher.

In a macro photograph, ants can appear terrifying without being cut in half. Joshua Coogler captured a series of incredibly detailed pictures of the insects, which PetaPixel covered in July.

According to Coogler, he took between 30 and over 300 pictures to create the final image. It is so that the area in focus can be seen as a thin slice. He mentions using a technique called focus stacking, wherein he stacked all the photographs.
