Christmas 2022: Know about store hours for Tesco, Asda, Aldi, M&S, and other supermarkets

There is no uniform policy among supermarkets regarding Christmas hours; some choose to shut down on Boxing Day to provide staff with a paid holiday, while others choose to remain open.

We have compiled a list of all the major United Kingdom supermarkets' opening and closing times between Friday, December 23, and Tuesday, December 27.

Despite the extensive research on this list, it is still just a guide. Before making a trip, you should always double-check the hours of operation at your local supermarket.


Most of them provide a search tool on their websites to find when a particular supermarket near you is open.

Tesco:

On Friday, December 23, both the regular Tesco and the Express versions of your neighbourhood supermarket will open at the same time.

Lidl:

Lidl stores everywhere will be open on Friday, December 23, from 7 am until either 10 pm or 11 pm.

Asda:

The Asda on December 23 will be open as usual, from 6 am to midnight, but after Christmas Eve, the store will have different hours.

Morrisons:

Before Christmas, Morrisons will be operating on its normal schedule, including this Friday, the 23.

Aldi:

Some Aldi locations will stay open a bit later than usual on December 23 and be open from 7 am to 10 pm.

Sainsbury's:

Friday is a usual business day at Sainsbury's. The Sainsbury's we checked were open from 6 or 7 am on Christmas Eve until 7 pm, although other stores stayed open later.
