Chelsea transfer update: The Blues gear up for Enzo Fernandez transfer bid to blow Manchester United and Liverpool away

Chelsea, the London based professional Football Club, is set to sign a deal with Molde’s striker David Datro Fofana on January 1, 2023. The club is now also interested in Benfica’s midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

The club’s interest in Fernandez is newfound after his recent FIFA World Cup win with Argentina as well as being the awardee for the Young Player of the Tournament in Qatar.

After becoming the Premier League’s big spender following the takeover led by Todd Boehly this Summer, The Blues, now appear to be circling the same approach for the winter transfer window.


Chelsea, which has moved fast to sign 20-year-old striker Fofana, confirmed the deal via a statement on Wednesday is not stopping just yet. They have now set their sights on Benfica midfielder Fernandez.

However, it faces a stumble as the Portuguese club is not ready to sell Fernandez for anything less than his £105m release clause. The player who signed for Benfica last summer, is under contract until 2027.


Benfica which is currently set to win the Portuguese League for the first time after four seasons and in the last 16 of the Champions League does not want to jeopardise the wins by selling Fernandez mid-season.

On the other hand, Chelsea hopes that the midfielder will drive the Lisbon club towards an immediate move as they seek to turn around towards a win after a difficult first season under Boehly's leadership.

Fernandez after all has established himself as an a;ternative to Jude Bellingha with his glorious performance at the FIFA 2022 Qatar World Cup and during his first half in European football season.

For now no one is sure about Chelsea’s position on Enzo Fernandez but it has been confirmed that Benfica isn’t interested in letting him go so soon, especially after his performance at the World Cup.
