Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have been given optimism for a strong Mexican Grand Prix outcome after Ferrari's Carlos Sainz forecast a six-car race for victory. The Silver Arrows have had a rough 2022 season, having yet to win a race, in sharp contrast to their dominance over the previous eight seasons.

At last weekend's US Grand Prix in Austin, seven-time champion Hamilton came agonisingly close to winning his first race of the season. After a less-than-ideal pit stop propelled Max Verstappen into the lead of the Grand Prix, it appeared he would be able to keep his record of winning at least one race in every F1 season he has competed.

But all hopes of a US triumph were crushed as Verstappen stormed back to beat Hamilton with only a few circuits remaining. The Red Bull driver then went on to win, clinching Red Bull's Constructors Championship for 2022.

However, Hamilton may have another chance to win in Mexico this weekend, with Ferrari's Carlos Sainz forecasting a six-way duel for the win involving Red Bull, Mercedes, and, of course, Ferrari's two drivers. The Spaniard also had a heart-breaking appearance in the United States, qualifying on pole only to be thrown out on the first corner due to a mistake by Russell.
