Burkina Faso second coup aftermath: West African regional bloc, ECOWAS mediators to visit Ouagadougou
Following the nation's second attempt this year, West African ECOWAS regional grouping representatives are visiting Burkina Faso. Read on to know more about it.

After discussions managed by religious officials, diplomats reported that Lt. Col. Paul Henri Sandaogo Damiba had left for the neighboring country of Togo. An ECOWAS delegation would be traveling to Ouagadougou when this information was revealed.
In the interim, the junta accepted Capt. Ibrahim Traore, 34, as Burkina Faso's legitimate leader. Although the ECOWAS, a union of 15 West African nations, had designated July 2024 as its expiration date, it was still unclear what would happen to it.
After failing to prevent terrorist attacks, the previous administration of Burkina Faso's legitimately elected president was overthrown by Damiba in January. But because of the escalating Islamist slaughter, Damiba's time has now passed. The violence has claimed thousands of lives and has driven two million people from their homes.
During discussions with the media over the weekend, the new leader stated that the situation for soldiers in the field was still dire. Traore claimed that Damiba had not taken the necessary steps to make a difference.
