British government has released a list of schools that have been identified as having concrete structures prone to collapse. The document, issued by the Department for Education, reveals that 19 schools, catering to a total of 11,150 pupils, had to delay the start of their term due to reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) concerns.

In addition, four schools with a combined student population of 2,938 have had to revert to remote learning, reminiscent of the pandemic era, while the remaining schools have adopted a combination of remote learning and in-person classes.

This disclosure came just ahead of the first Prime Minister's Questions (PMQs) session since the summer recess. During the session, Rishi Sunak informed the Commons that the government had taken decisive action to ensure the safety of children and minimize disruptions to education. However, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer criticized the Conservatives, alleging that they had been cutting corners for 13 years and likened government ministers to "cowboy builders".


Munira Wilson, the education spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats, also urged Sunak to be transparent regarding his own involvement in this crisis and to release the evidence he received during his tenure as chancellor regarding the risks posed by RAAC to children's safety.
