British-Egyptian activist Alaa Abdel Fattah under 'medical intervention', says family
The pro-democracy activist Alaa Abdel Fattah started his partial hunger strike in April. Now he has refused water as well.

Notably, Alaa Abdel Fattah has been on a hunger strike since April, but he escalated the hunger strike on November 6 by refusing water.
The 40-year-old activist began a hunger strike to pressurise Egyptian officials to allow him to meet British diplomats.
The activist had written to his family last week that he would refuse the intake of water as well after the opening of the COP27 climate conference in Sharm el-Sheikh's Egyptian Red Sea resort. However, Egyptian authorities have constantly been refusing consular access to Abdel Fattah.
The family, on November 9, expressed concerns that the Egyptian authorities might have put the activist on intravenous drips to force-feed him.
The family said it while reacting to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's comments.
Earlier, the president had told his French counterpart that Egypt was 'committed' to preserving the health of the pro-democracy activist.
Through a tweet, Sief demanded Egyptian authorities to allow her mother or someone from the British embassy to visit her brother so that they come to know about his "real health status". UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, on November 9, stated that the activist must be 'freed' as soon as possible.
