British decathlete Ben Gregory fights for life after horrific bike crash

British decathlete Ben Gregory represented Wales in Gold Coast, 2018, Glasgow, 2014, and Delhi, 2010 Commonwealth Games.

British decathlete Ben Gregory was in a critical condition after suffering a fractured skull and neck in a serious bike accident last week. The 31-year-old decathlete, who represented Wales in three Commonwealth Games, is on life support and in a coma.

So far, he has been a part of three Commonwealth Games. He was involved in a severe bike crash, and prayers are pouring in for his health.

After his horrific accident, he suffered brain and neck hemorrhages and a fractured skull.


His girlfriend took to social media and mentioned his condition. She said how helpless, scared, and sick to the stomach she felt. She wrote that Ben needs prayers and everyone's positive thoughts. She added that people who know Ben know that he is physically and mentally strong, a fighter, and he will come through.



Gregory was a part of the youth rugby union in his initial sporting days and played for Wasps Academy, London. He studied at Loughborough University later, where he pursued professional athletics. Gregory came sixth in Delhi's Commonwealth Games in 2010 and set a new pole vault record in Commonwealth Games. He was sixth in Glasgow again and set a new personal record.

The athlete also has the Welsh national record, which he set while winning the Mount Sax Relays Decathlon in 2016. He also worked as a coach, personal trainer, and model in London. Fellow athletes have shared plenty of messages on social media wishing for his excellent health and speedy recovery.

Dai Greene, former hurdle world champion, said it's sad to hear about Ben, and he hopes that Ben pulls through. He added that Ben is one of the most positive and admirable people with whom he has shared the track and urged him to keep fighting.

James Williams, the Chief Executive of Welsh Athletics, sent his prayers and called Ben one of the nicest people he has known. He urged Ben to keep fighting and said they were all praying for him.

Stephen Morris, a Paralympian, said that he hoped Ben would pull through and called him one of the nicest people he knew. A statement was issued by West Athletics praying for Ben and wishing him the best of luck.

Ben is arguably Wales' best best decathlete ever, as his accomplishments suggest. He has been a part of three Commonwealth Games, is the record holder for Wales, and has represented Great Britain and Wales several times.

People trained with him speak about his loyalty, support, kindness, and love. Ben was involved in a cycling accident in October 2020 and escaped severe injuries due to his helmet.
He started raising awareness about the same.

He had posted his damaged helmet's picture on social media and captioned it by saying the helmet is inexpensive and does a great job.
