The Birmingham Pride weekend is around the corner as the city seems to be getting ready for the annual festival. The current year is the silver jubilee of the annual LGBTQ+ festival, and this year, it will kickstart with an event at Smithfield starting on Friday, followed by a parade on Saturday.

What is Birmingham Pride?
Birmingham Pride is an LGBTQ+ festival held annually. The festival is the UK’s largest two-day gay pride festival, which includes a carnival parade, dance and music events, street stalls, funfair rides, and other entertainment activities. The first Birmingham Gay Pride took place on July 8 and 9, 1977, a week after the London Gay Pride Week.


Birmingham Pride was initiated to celebrate LGBTQ+ achievements at the community level. The pride also celebrates the year-round activities and raises support for charities and communities that work for the benefit of LGBTQ+ individuals.

What’s the Weekend Schedule for the Birmingham Pride?
The weekend event starts with a free community event at Smithfield. The Birmingham Pride parade will begin on Saturday at 11 am at Centenary Square and will move through the city at noon. The parade will make its way through several places, including the following:
  • Paradise Circus Tramway
  • New Street
  • High Street
  • St. Martins Queensway
  • Hurst Street
  • Thorpe Street

There will also be the following events scheduled for the two-day festival:

  • Dance Events
  • Cabaret Performances
  • Future Stage - Local performers and drag artists

Speeches and stage performances were scheduled to take place on Friday. Likewise, a candlelight vigil will be held on Friday, featuring Elle Hamilton, Fatt Butcher, Beau Jangles, and others. Birmingham Pride aims to uplift the lives of the LGBTQ+ community in the city and across West Midlands.

As per media reports, the pride has donated over £500,000 to LGBTQ+ charities and support groups since 2015 for essential services and more. The pride has also raised over £275,000 for various LGBTQ+ development projects, as well as £105,000 granted as subsidies to related organizations.
