Beth Mead, Lionesses star wins BBC Sports Personality of Year 2022 award

Beth Mead has become the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2022 after guiding the Lionesses to victory in the Women's Euros. Beth won the Golden Boot after scoring six goals and was also the Player of the Tournament in the Women's Euros. Ben Stokes, the captain of the English cricket team, gymnast Jessica Gadirova, and runner Jake Wightman were among the nominations.

However, Beth was the favorite to win. While Mead won, Stokes came in second place. Beth said she was speechless and massively honoured to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2022.

Women's Sport and Accolades

Beth Mead appreciated her team and said it would not have been possible without them. She also thanked her parents and family. She feels women's sport is going in the right direction and dedicates this award to the cause. She asked the girls to keep pushing and doing what was right.


Emma Raducanu won the award in 2021, meaning that two women have won the award back-to-back for the first time after 50 afters.


The previous two women to win it was Mary Peters and Princess Anne in 1972 and 1971, respectively. Interestingly, Sarina Wiegman, England's manager, won the Coach of the Year, and England won the Team of the Year.
