Australia’s new $5 note will not feature King Charles III, new design to pay tribute to Indigenous people
On the current design of Australia’s five dollar note, the late Queen Elizabeth II appears. But, King Charles III will not be featured in the new design.

It is to note the current design of Australia’s five dollar note, the late Queen Elizabeth II appears. In a statement, the bank said that the recent decision involving King Charles III follows consultation with the Australian government which backs the change.

RBA said that the bank would consult with the First Australians in designing the new five dollar note. It is pertinent to mention that the new banknote would take several years to be designed and then ultimately be printed. In the meantime, the bank said that the current five dollar note would continue to feature the image of the British monarch, the late Queen. She is also featured on Australia’s coins.
While King Charles III would not appear on the new design for five dollar notes, the country is gradually transitioning to using an effigy of the King. The British monarch only appears in the A$5 banknote in Australia.
First Nations people lived in Australia for around 65,000 years before the British colonisation, as per reports. King Charles III became a British monarch following the death of his mother in September 2022.
