Ongoing disruptions for commuters train and tube strikes have been a recurring headache for commuters as talks between unions and rail companies fail to yield an agreement. Aslef, the train drivers' union, has confirmed strikes for August, with six days of walkouts scheduled from July 31 to August 5 and another six days from August 7 to August 12.

During these periods, Aslef workers will refuse to participate in any overtime, causing delays and cancellations for 16 train operators, including Avanti West Coast, Cross Country, GWR, Southeastern, and more. London Underground currently has no scheduled strikes for August.

Junior Doctors continue their pay dispute with a Fifth Strike

Junior doctors are engaging in their fifth strike during an ongoing pay dispute. The four-day strike is set to start at 07:00 BST on Friday, August 11, and conclude at 07:00 on Tuesday, August 15. Their demand is to return to a salary equivalent to their 2008 earnings, which would amount to a 35% rise. Ministers have expressed concerns about the affordability of such an increase.

Airport Strikes Cancelled, but Potential Disruptions Loom

Gatwick airport staff initially planned walkouts from July 28 to August 1 and from August 4 to August 8, threatening delays and cancellations for various flight operators, including easyJet, British Airways, and Ryanair.

However, these strikes have recently been called off after DHL Services Ltd, ASC, and Menzies Aviation reached a new pay deal, averting disruptions during the summer holidays. However, GGS workers are still in the process of voting on their pay offer, and if it is not accepted, further strike action could occur.
