The Arts Council just published its portfolio for the coming three years. According to the report, 990 arts groups around the country will receive a total of £446 million, including the 276 newest additions.
The funds will ensure the continuation of the arts in Yorkshire, but several organisations will be denied critical financing. Unlimited, a disability-led organisation in West Yorkshire, is one of the greatest beneficiaries. Over the following three years, Unlimited will get £1 million every year. The highest amount of money ever given to a disability-led group.
Who didn’t make it?
Pockligton Arts Centre in East Yorkshire is one of the groups that will not get funding this year. They expressed disappointment at not being able to prolong their funding but pledged to persevere. "It is our objective to secure the future of our treasured venue with an emphasis on community participation and to promote grassroots opportunities for new artists," they say. "We are grateful to our friends and volunteers, without whom the day-to-day operations would not be possible."
