Amy Winehouse biopic 'Back To Black' first look: Marisa Abela features as late singer

The first look of Amy Winehouse biopic "Back To Black" is out. An image, portraying Marisa Abela as English singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse, has been released. Abela, who has appeared in BBC Two's Industry and Sky One's COBRA, is set to begin filming the biography Back To Black next week, named after the artist's famed album and song.

Abela is seen in the first image provided by Studio Canal UK with the late singer's characteristic black beehive hair, makeup, and gold earrings.

Amy Winehouse, English singer and songwriter, passed away with alcohol poising at the age of 27 in Camden, north London on 23 July, 2011, according to reports.




She was recognised for her soulful vocals and songs such as Love Is A Losing Game and Tears Dry On Their Own, as well as a Valerie cover she did with Mark Ronson.

"With camera rolling from next week, we are thrilled to release this first look at rising star Marisa Abela as Amy," Studio Canal stated, as it released the first glimpse of the upcoming biopic on legendary singer.



Fifty Shades of Grey filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson is directing the biopic.

Further, the lead star Marisa Abela shared a picture of herself near a Winehouse mural and posted on Instagram, captioning, "I love you, Amy. And for London. This is for London. Cause Camden Town ain't burnin' down," she said.
