American XL Bully dog: Half a million sign petition urging UK PM Rishi Sunak not to ban it

Will the UK government ban the American XL Bully dog or consider the petition urging it not to ban the breed?

After UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak ordered to ban American XL Bully dog, more than half a million people in the UK signed a petition urging him not to add it to the list of banned dog breeds. As the petition has gathered enough signatures, it may be debated in the House of Commons. The government is preparing to ban the American XL Bully dog breed after it was linked to an increase in violent, unprovoked and often fatal attacks on humans.

If it is banned, breeding, selling, giving away, or abandoning the dogs of this breed will become an offense punishable by up to a jail term of six months. But the present owners will be allowed to keep the dog till obeys strict conditions.

Glyn Saville has prepared the petition. The petition has been uploaded on the website of the parliament. It is written in the petition, "An XL Bully is a Heinz 57, a mixture of different breeds, so if you ban them then this will have implications for cross breeds of dog because nobody can be sure on the breed specifics."

Defending the breed he said that because a dog is big and muscular doesn’t mean it can be labelled an XL Bully. He also said that bad owners should be punished, not the breed.

Glyn Saville is not alone in opposing the government's move. A group of seven major charities have joined hands and formed 'The Dogs Control Coalition' to oppose the ban. The coalition has said that the ban won't work and it could be too 'complicated' to implement it.

Contrary to this move, there are persons and organisations that do not recognise the breed.
