Alzheimer’s game-changing drug may be available for patients from next year, reveals expert

Alzheimer’s is a type of progressive neurologic disorder that causes the brain to shrink and brain cells to die. It is a condition that destroys memory and other important mental functions.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Alzheimer’s disease is one of the most common causes of dementia, which starts reducing a person's ability to function independently.

According to the Centre for Disease Control, approximately 5.8 million people in the US over the age of 65 suffer from Alzheimer’s. In India, the number of Alzheimer's patients is expected to increase from 7 million 11.4 million by 2025.

As Alzheimer’s causes the brain to atrophy, early signs of this condition include forgetting recent events and conversations. With time, Alzheimer’s can lead to severe memory impairments.

Besides memory loss, other symptoms of this condition include poor decision-making abilities, difficulty in getting the right word, asking questions repeatedly, etc.
