Alvaro Morata has suffered an ankle injury three weeks before the World Cup. According to the club, Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has a swollen ankle after being forced off in Sunday’s 3-2 La Liga loss to Cadiz.

The 30-year-old, who has been a vital player for Spain's coaches, Luis Enrique and Diego Simeone, at Atletico Madrid, is doubtful about his club’s forthcoming games before the World Cup begins on November 20.

Alvaro Morata is likely to be back before the tournament.

On Sunday morning, Alvaro Morata underwent medical tests that revealed soft tissue oedema in his ankle when Mamadou Mbaye stood on his foot at Saturday’s game. Although he is at risk of missing the World Cup due to the injury, the swelling of the soft tissue in his ankle should heal soon. He should be back by the time the tournament begins.
