All Saints’ Day 2022: Know Date, Timings, History, Symbols and Significance of Hallowmas

On November 1, people practising Christianity revere all church saints who have reached heaven. The saints may be known or unknown. All Saints ’ Day is the name of this event, and it shouldn’t be confused with an event observed on November 2 known as All Souls’ Day.

The event is also known as All Hallows’ Day, the Feast of All Saints, the Solemnity of All Saints and Hallowmas, and the Feast of All Hallows. It’s celebrated by the Roman Catholic Church, the Lutheran Church, the Methodist Church and more with utmost faith each year.

The All Saints’ Day of 2022 falls on November 1 every year, in the English Calendar. This pious day propagates the message that a spiritual connection lies between those on Earth and Heaven.

History & Significance:

Near Easter and Pentecost observance, many places used to host feasts commemorating all the Christian martyrs from the 4th century. Then the observance of All Saints’ Day was held in some churches on November 1 in the 9th century, which was expanded to the entire Catholic Church by Pope Gregory IV.

The liturgical observance of Hallowmas starts during All Hallows’ Eve, i.e. at the service of the evening prayer of October 31. The event comes to a conclusion at the close of the day on November 1.

White is the liturgical colour, and the Sheaf of wheat, symbols or images of individual saints, and Rayed Manus Dei are the pious symbols associated with the Feast of All Saints.
